Andover Adversiser Report 25-01-16

In the quarter finals of the Weighill Trophy (a team handicap competition) the closest match

this week was between two Division 1 teams, Hanson Jaguars and Hanson ‘A’. This

resulted in a 6 – 2 win for Jaguars, with five of the seven sets going to three games. Sue

Purton (Jaguars) took advantage of her 5+ points start and won all her three sets, but had to

work hard against Dan Geary before winning 21-20, 13-21, 21-14. Graham Audin (Jaguars)

won two and Trevor Whitelock one, although this was an excellent win over Peter

Henderson 21-12, 18-21, 21-17. Steve Rollason and Dan did manage to win one set each

for Hanson ‘A’, both at the expense of Trevor who had to give away two points per game.

The scores being 21-17, 19-21, 13-21 and 21-13, 12-21, 19-21, respectively.

In a Div1/Div2 clash Hanson Leopards had to give away approx 17 points per game against

Hanson Falcons, but unfortunately this was still not enough for Falcons who went down 7 –

2. James Clark (Leopards) won all his three sets, with Rob Macey and Peter Dyson winning

two each. Simon Prosser (Falcons) had a surprisingly comfortable victory against Rob and

Val Fox did very well to beat Peter 14-21, 21-19, 4-21.

Hanson Lions managed to reverse last years match with Enham to record a 5 – 2 win in this

Div2 clash. Darren & Ross Walkom (Lions) both won two sets, with Jill Cook contributing

one. Roy Horner played well for Enham winning two, but only just defeating Jill 17-21, 21-9,

19- 21.

Another Div2 fixture saw the two ladies of 3D’s lose to Hanson Kestrals 0 – 6. With only four points the total difference in the handicaps, 3D’s did not have much of a chance with two players, so William Cooper, Mark & Jordan Pettengell all won two each for Kestrals. Rachel Hicks (3D’s) went down fighting against Jordan, just losing 15-21, 21-14, 15-21.
