Andover Advertiser Report 06-04-15

In Division 1 Hanson Pumas recorded a hard fought 21 – 16 win over Hanson Cougars, thanks to three from Richard Fettes. Shaun Carver (Pumas) recorded two managing an excellent four game defeat of Steve Harris. Steve held on to beat Ray Carver (Pumas) 16-14, 11-7, 7-11, 7-11, 7-11. Richard seems to have the upper hand in the league over Andy Barnes (Cougars) as, despite losing to him in the recent Championships, he had won their previous league encounters. This match proved no exception as Richard finally won 11-9, 6-11, 8-11, 11-5, 12-10.

This final result leaves Pumas in second place 29 points behind Tigers.

Two late Championship finals were played this week with the reigning champions Marie Dyke & Nicky Downs retaining their Ladies Doubles title when they defeated Jill Cook & Sarah Medland 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.

The second match was the Handicap Doubles final between Div 2’s Andy Farmer & Dave Broomfield, and Div 1’s Peter Henderson & Trevor Whitelock who had to give their opponents 10 points start per game. The betting was on Andy & Dave having too great a start on their opponents, but this proved not to be the case as Peter & Trevor used all their experience to come back and take the title 19-21, 21-15, 21-13.

The Association are running a six week coaching session at John Hanson School commencing Saturday 18th April from 9 to 11am with the aim of encouraging youngsters from years 3 -6 (ages 7 to 11).
