Andover Advertiser Report 17-11-12

There were five matches this week in the Advertiser Cup, which is a team handicap competition.

Two top 1st Division teams clashed in the first round, with Hanson A overcoming Hanson Pumas 5 – 3. Dan Geary and Josh White stared for Hanson A with two each, ably supported with one from Peter Henderson. Danas Kairys played well in winning two for Pumas, whilst the handicaps restricted Shaun Carver to just the one, when he beat Peter 21-17, 17-21, 21-19.

Another Div 1 encounter saw Trevor Whitelock take three in Hanson Jaguars defeat of Figheldean 5 – 3. For Figheldean Lionel Coles won two and Brian Cook managed one. Brian Fox (Jaguars) who has just come back from illness, won one. So did Sue Purton with her hard fought win over Julie Dean 19-21, 21-20, 21-16.

Hanson Panthers recorded a good 5 – 2 win over their Div 2 opponents Enham. James Taylor and Dave Broomfield got two each, whilst Andy Farmer surprisingly only managed one. Peter Farmer (Enham) won both his sets although he had to dig deep to overcome Dave Broomfield 21-18, 16-21, 18-21.

Another Div 2 encounter saw Hanson Pidgeons thrash Hanson Lions 8 – 1. Nathan Shears and Simon Przeklasa won three sets each, while Adam Shears won two, having lost to Mike Bonarius 14-21, 19-21.

Falcons of Div 2 managed to defeat Test Valley A 7 – 2 in a very close encounter in which six sets went to three games. The star for Falcons was Sarah Medland with three, with Jason Cullip and Val Fox both recording two each. For Test Valley Cameron Langdown won two and only just lost to Sarah 21-15, 18-21, 21-20. Isabelle Woodfield played well and was unlucky to lose 21-11, 9-21, 21-15 to Sarah and 20-221, 21-11, 21-16 to Jason. Oliver Day tried hard but was not helped with his handicap. Test Valley can however reflect on this experience and look forward to doing better in the Weighill Trophy, which follows on for all first round losers.

 

In Division 2 Pidgeons took a hammering from Panthers when defeated 1 – 30. Dave Broomfield, Andy Farmer and James Taylor won all their games for Panthers. The single game won by Pidgeons was recorded by Blade Medland when he lost to James 11-6, 9-11, 2-11, 5-11.
