Success at Perth Grand Prix

Article by Alison Woods

At long last TTS tournaments have resumed with the Perth Grand Prix taking place yesterday at the Bell’s Sports Centre.

Local players had some success with Tessa Yau runner up to Lucy Elliott in the Ladies Singles but winning the Ladies Band 1 title with club mate Ilona Obst Wojcicka having to settle for second place in a competitive group.

Ilona’s daughter Maja Wojcicka took the honours in both the Cadet & Minor Girls although newcomer Nichole Lee made her work hard with their matches going to the fifth end in each event.

Daniel Tibbetts was top seed and hot favourite for the Cadet Boys and didn’t disappoint with another dominant performance to take the title in an event where 7 of the 9 entrants hailed from Aberdeen. Jakub Krzyzostaniak was delighted to take second place in the Minor Boys with Joe Mulhern claiming top spot.

Thanks to coaches Max, Natalie & Donald for looking after the players who will no doubt be hopeful of more success at the next event, the postponed 2020/21 Scottish National Championships which take place on the weekend of 23/24 October once again at the Bell’s Sports Centre.
