Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 01 December 2019
In the Premier Division Cramlington Stingers defeated Old England Jacks 7-3 with Lewis Cadden, Steve Pearce and Nigel Rodgers all winning two games for Cramlington; Steve Penman was player of the match despite being on the losing side after winning his three games. Prudhoe A had a good 7-3 win away to Mount C with Mark O’Connor and Andy Benjamin both winning three games each and combing to win the doubles. There was straightforward 8-2 win for St Chads over Cramlington Casuals. Keith Weatherby was in good form for St Chads winning three games and player of the match, Chris Blake and Paul Baines won two games each. Duncan Wraight won two games for the Casuals. There was a high quality game between Mount A and NECA A which ended up with NECA winning 6-4 and maintaining top spot in the division. Player of the match was Andrew Wilkinson who won his three games. Wilkinson has just gone to 20th place in the national senior men rankings and edged out Mount’s Graeme Barella in a close game, Barella who is also ranked in the top 50 of the senior men. Also, playing were two nationally ranked juniors, Ben Piggott who is ranked 7th in the national junior boys played his first game for Mount and won two games, Adam Webster who is ranked 17th in the junior boys was playing for NECA. Mount B could not field a side for the game against Matfen Senators so Matfen gained a 10-0 walkover.
In Division 1 Tyneside A maintained top spot after a 5-5 draw with NECA B. David Byers was in good form for NECA winning three games and was supported by Ken Lee who won two games. Tyneside opened up a gap at the top of the table after Newcastle University went down to a 7-3 defeat to bottom placed Cramlington Tigers. Cramlington had division 2 players Bernie McCardle and Oliver Ho playing up for them and with regular Pete Wilkinson all three Cramlington players won two games. Only Jack Formby offered any resistance for the University team as he won his three games. Newton A moved into promotion contention after a 7-3 win over Prudhoe B. Graeme Bell continues his good form for Newton winning three games, John Russell won two games and Dave Lucas one game. Brandon Anacondas bounced back after last week’s defeat to beat Mount D 7-3. Stephen Pattinson and Ian Richardson were in good form for Brandon both winning three games and combining to win the doubles. Ouston A had a 7-3 win over Matfen Centurions with Bernie Morris player of the match winning his three games. Mitford had a 6-4 win over NECA B with Dale Aitkenhead player of the match winning his three games.
In Division 2 Mount E maintained top spot after a 7-3 win over Cramlington Spartans. Will McCallum won his three games with Michael Hope and Charlie Mouzon winning twogames. Cramlington’s Jamie Hall had two good wins against the more experienced Mouzon and Hope. Old England Crocks keep up the pressure on Mount with an 8-2 win over OustonD. Brian Bateman and Joe Perrin both won three games for Old England with Alan Atkinson winning two games. The all Cramlington game between Cramlington Swifts and Cramlington Reivers ended in a 5-5 draw. Bernie McCardlewas player of the match for the Reivers in a game which went back and forward between the two teams and went down to the last game which saw McCardle beat Phil Teah-Smith to secure the draw for the Reivers. There was another 5-5 draw between Ouston C and Tyneside TTC B. Ouston took a 5-3 lead thanks to two wins apiece from Harry Veitch and Duncan Hindmarsh; and the pair combining to win the doubles. Tyneside hit back with Jim Robertson, Don Catley and Dean Eadington each winning their last singles game to secure the draw. Cramlington Falcons had a straightforward 9-1 win over Matfen Tribunes. Oliver Ho and Archie Stokes both won three games and Alfie Stokes won two games.
In Division 3 top placed Mount F had a straightforward 10-0 win for Mount F Saints. The Mount team of John Rowell, Michael Bradley and William Edwards proved too strong for their opponents. Matfen Whitley Chapel beat Tyneside C 8-2 with Pete Seago gaining player of the match for Matfenwinning three games and supported by Stefan Sobell and William Martin who both won two games each; Paul Conn and Leon Conn secured the two wins for Tyneside. In their second game of the week Tyneside C lost a closer game 6-4 against Newton B. Tom Manuel was in good form for Newton winning three games. Cramlington Jaguars beat Ouston D 8-2 with Gavin Wilson winning three games; and Abdel Warayetand Mick Sursham winning two games each.
In Division 4 the top two teams were both in action twice this week. The first game they played each other with Cramlington Dragons coming out on top in a 6-4 win over Cramlington Dynamos. The Dragons secured the win as Pauline Long, Stephen Baxter and Adrian Barnes all won two games eachbut player of the match went to the Dynamos Alan Roskillywho won his three games. In their second game the Dynamos had a straightforward 9-1 win over Cramlington Knights. OjasAggarwal and Alan Roskilly both won their three games for the Dynamos with Rohan Rawat winning two games. The consolation win for the Knights was gained by Jessica Yang. In the Dragons second game they won a close game 6-4 against Cramlington Lions. Pauline Long was player of the match for the Dragons winning three games.
