League Update 2nd December
Saint Chads are the only unbeaten side in the Premier Division of the Northumbria League. They are very much in contention lying in third place after they defeated NESLC Eagles 7 – 3. Young Josh Weatherby was unbeaten in singles and won the doubles with his father Keith who also won two singles. Barry Cuthbertson completed their score, Paul Baines doing best for the losers with two sets.
The only undefeated side in Division One are Cramlington Tigers who are only four points behind the leaders Riding Mill A. Paul Jamieson and Lee Eadington won two singles each as they defeated Ouston A 6 – 4 with Mike Lyons managing two for Ouston. Riding Mill’s Mark O’Connor, Peter Stempczyk and Shirley Gelder produced a team effort with two sets each and the doubles to put paid to Old England Jacks.
Keith Hodges was in form for Matfen C who came from 3 – 1 down to win 6 - 4 at Cramlington Swifts when he won all of his sets and also partnered Steve Oxley to success in the doubles. Oxley and Nigel Tree managed one each while Lynsey Storey and Peter Wilkinson each got two for the home side.
Third Division leaders Ouston B lost their 100% record when they visited second placed Old England FATTS but with Tom Foyle unbeaten managed to get a draw to stay six points ahead. Best performances for FATTS came from Nick Ng and Steve Martin who got two each.
Newton C, promotion favourites along with Ouston C in division four were given a tough game by Cramlington Magpies and only just won 6 –4 thanks to Julian Manuel winning all of his matches. The three young Cramlington players Elliott Dorrington and Peter and Richard Anderson got one each and were also successful in the doubles.
