League Update 2nd April
Cramlington Casuals are on the brink of retaining the Premier Division title in the Northumbria League. A hat trick by Steve Penman and two sets each from Gary Sangster and Mark Christie who were standing in for Andrew Wilkinson and Barry Richardson gave them a 7 – 3 victory over the Stingers and they now only need five points from their last two matches.
Cramlington Reivers and NESLC Eagles are still battling it out for second place after the Eagles beat North East Chinese 7 –3 and the Reivers were held to a draw by Saint Chads.
Newton A were confirmed as winners of division one when they beat Cramlington Cobras 10 – 0 and Seaburn Dene edged nearer to promotion despite being held to a draw by North Fire B with Chris Dixon winning all of his matches.
Although Alan Livingstone turned in an unbeaten performance Springwell B were held to a draw by Ouston A in Division Two with Mike Lyons and Mark Rodgers getting two each. With YMCA North Tyneside B only winning 6 – 4 against Cramlington Trojans for whom Paul Jamieson won all of his sets Ouston are still firmly in the race for promotion.
At the other end of the table Old England FATTS and Saints are now doomed to relegation.
Matfen B side of Alex Holliday, Dave Swan and John Henderson whitewashed Cramlington Dragons in Division Three in their quest to overhaul North East Chinese C for the title.Successive defeats for NESLC Codgers at the hands of Ouston B and Corinthians condemned them to relegation.
Byker A and Ouston A had convincing wins over Spartans and Saints in the handicap cup and will now be in opposition in the semis. The other semi final sees Corinthians, who narrowly defeated Newtron B up against Matfen C who overcame YMCA N.Tyneside C.
