Springwell Community Association, playing for the first time in the Northumbria League Premier division lost for the first time when they entertained Cramlington Stingers. Alex Smith got them off to a good start by beating Bonne Habekost 13 – 11 in the fifth game and after David Graham had levelled for the visitors Dave Pringle put them back in front with victory over Iain Wood in another five ender. But that was to be all that the home side were to get although Smith and Pringle came very close to beating Wood and Graham respectively. Cramlington Tigers having come from behind to win their previous match found the boot on the other foot when they took on NESLC Eagles, losing 6 -4 after holding a 4 – 1 lead. Steve Penman did the damage by winning all three of his sets.
Springwell’s B team also made a good start in their first division match away to North Fire B but they also ended up losing, despite a hat-trick by Mohinda Rawat. Bob Atwell and Karen Henry got two each for the home team as well as winning the doubles and Barry Hill won one.
Cramlington Corinthians and Newton B drew their second division match with Alastair Johnson winning all of his sets for the Corinthians. In the same division Mortimer’s Dick Karczewski, Jamie Westwater and Ray Purves were too strong for Ouston B, running out 9 – 1 winners. Cramlington Cobras also won 9 – 1 away to Saints.
