PRESS REPORT – Sunday 23^rd Dec

Just a few rearranged matches played in the last week before Christmas.  In the First Division there were big wins for Torbay Academy 1 and Brixham Sharks over the bottom two teams, Brixham Gulls and Halwell. The Torbay Academy Team of Lenard Hernandez, Kris & Jakub Piwowar whitewashed the Gulls from Brixham. The Sharks team of Gordon Holmes, Clive Banham and Bob Parkins dropped just the one point to Halwell, Halwell’s Dave Wadling preventing the whitewash with a win over Bob Parkins.

There was an excellent 8-2 win for Taverners over NA Falcons in Division 2. Colin Harrop took a maximum for the Taverners.

A Bill Keywood maximum for Torre Titans in the Fourth Division earned a 5-5 draw with Dawlish Drifters, and there was a fine 8-2 win for Newton Abbot Owls at Torre over the Panthers, with Rowan Bayliss giving another man of the match performance for the Owls.

The Dyment Doubles, a team handicap competition has started and there were good wins for NA Eagles, Torbay Academy 5 and Taverners in their first round matches.

In an all-Newton Abbot tie, the Ospreys’ Ben Pead & Rob Ferguson take on the Eagles’ Louis Wilshire & Jim McIvor in the first round of the Dyment Doubles

As we approach the half way mark of the season, at the Christmas break, there is a very familiar look to the top of the First Division.  The current Champions, Torbay Academy 1, are 16 points clear at the top and a level above the chasing pack of three, currently led by Brixham Sharks with the Newton Abbot Buzzards and Batmen just behind. Father-and-son Kris and Jakub Piwowar lead the averages, Kris with a 100% record.

The 2^nd Division is much closer with NA Eagles just a point ahead of Torbay Academy 2. Brixham Pirates in third, just off the pace at the moment, could still mount a challenge, then there is a big gap of 19 points to 4^th-placed NA Falcons. The outstanding player currently being the Academy’s Warren Ngai, who has just lost the one game. NA Eagles’ Jim McIvor with just two defeats, is second in the averages.

Its also tight at the top of the Third Division, with just 2 points separating the top 3 teams. Torbay Academy 3 are currently level on points at the top with Marldon Tykes, with NA Hawks just 2 points behind. As with the 2^nd Division, there is then a 19-point gap to the fourth placed NA Kestrels. The Torbay Academy 3 pair of Matt Cooper and Ben Hoare lead the way in the averages.

Hasbeens lead the 4^th Division with Torre Titans, at the moment, looking to be the only team likely to mount a challenge to them.  The Titans’ Chris Harper, yet to be beaten, leads the averages with the Hasbeens pair of Alan Tyrrell and Mike Coxhead 2^nd & 3^rd.

With so many new players in the 5^th Division, all gaining experience, it is difficult to see how things will develop. Torbay Academy 7 lead the way just a couple of points ahead of NA Ospreys in second.  The Academy’s Kacper Piwowar, with a 100% record, leads the averages, with the Ospreys’ Rob Ferguson in 2^nd having just dropped the one game.
